The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, an autonomous organ of the Organization of American States (OAS), seeks to promote and protect human rights in the Americas. U.S. advocates against the Brazilian dictatorship petitioned the IACHR to investigate human rights abuses in Brazil in 1970.
